Steven Bruce ‘Steve' Wanberg
July 9, 2006
|
MISSOULA - Steven Bruce “Steve” Wanberg, 48 years old, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 9, 2006, due to an apparent heart attack, at his home in Missoula.
Steve was born in Fargo, N.D., on Sept. 2, 1957, to Delbert Arthur and Ellen Dalos Wanberg. Steve was the third of three sons. The family moved to Missoula in 1963, where Steve attended school, graduating from Sentinel High School. In 1978, he married Kristy Marsh and they had two children, Patrick and Stephanie. Much later they divorced, but remained friends. They continued to work together as parents of their children until Kristy's death. Steve married Sally Riel on Halloween in 2003, and held a costume ball for their wedding and reception.
Steve began working as a teenager and then began his railroad career with Burlington Northern. He worked his way up to engineer with Montana Rail Link and drove through the beautiful Paradise Valley on his way to Spokane for many years. In 2002, he retired from the railroad.
Steve loved his children and enjoyed going to Pat's baseball games and Stephanie's horse shows. He became a proud grandfather this year when Pat and Jen brought his grandson, Jordan, into the world.
In his free time, he loved to go fishing, drink coffee with friends and eat ice cream.
Steve struggled with alcohol use for many years. He could not say enough about the support of AA. His family and friends are proud to
say that he died a sober man.
Steve had many friends and enjoyed life to the extreme. He loved to tell funny stories and quote the lyrics to a funny song. His wife Sally said many times she would go to bed laughing and wake up laughing.
He was preceded in death by his father, Delbert; ex-wife, Kristy; and his AA sponsor, Dick Smith.
He is survived by wife Sally; son Patrick (Jen); grandson Jordan; daughter Stephanie (Clayton); mother Ellen; brothers Gary (Beth) and Brian (Shirley); stepsons Kendall and Martin; aunts; uncles; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Steve was a big man with a big heart, and he will be missed in a big way. Steve believed in Jesus Christ as his Savior, the resurrection of the dead and eternal life. We take comfort in the fact that we will see him again. |
